The leaders of the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Our Moldova Alliance have asked the EU and the USA "to get involved and put an end to abuses committed by the ruling Communist Party against citizens".<\/p>\n

On Saturday, April 11, the three opposition leaders met ambassadors of the EU member states, followed by a meeting with US Ambassador to Moldova Asif J. Chaudhry.<\/p>\n

According to a press release by the Liberal Democratic Party, the opposition informed the foreign diplomats about the social and political situation in Moldova after the April 5 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

"The leaders of the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance drew the attention of Western diplomats to the unprecedented actions undertaken by the Communist authorities. Hundreds of young people have been arrested and severely beaten. They faced trial without legal procedure being observed. Domestic and foreign journalists are attacked on the streets. They are being arrested, assaulted, while foreign journalists are being expelled from Moldova. The independent mass media are being obstructed, while public access to information is blocked," the statement by the Liberal Democratic Party says.<\/p>\n

Also on Saturday, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vlad Filat had a meeting with Ukrainian ambassador to Moldova Sergey Pirozhkov and informed him about "the terror climate established in society by the authorities, with the help of the power wielding ministries and court".
