Thousands of young Moldovans rioted in the nation’s capital Tuesday, damaging government offices and battling police, authorities said.<\/P>

Dozens of people were injured before police regained control of the president’s offices and Parliament Wednesday, The New York Times reported<\/P>

The protesters, numbering more than 10,000, had used the Internet social networking tool Twitter not only to organize themselves but to alert the world to their activities until Internet service to Chisinau was cut off, the Times said.<\/P>

President Vladimir Voronin called the organizers fascists intoxicated with hatred.<\/Q><\/P>

Mihai Fusu, 48, a theater director who witnessed much of the day’s protest, said the poor Communist country’s young people are talking about how they want freedom.<\/Q><\/P>

The impetus for the demonstration were parliamentary elections held Sunday. The Communists won 50 percent of the vote, which allowed them to pick a new president and amend the Constitution.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
