The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is confident that the civic information and education campaign is going to mobilize the voters which will allow the validation of the elections by the Constitutional Court and the validation of the MPs’ mandates in the Moldovan Parliament of 12th legislature, in line with the Electoral Code’s stipulations.<\/p>\n

CEC Chairperson Eugeniu Stirbu stated within a news conference held on 3 April that about 20 thousand of electoral civil servants were involved in the electoral campaign for the 2009 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

At the same time, in line with the costs estimate for the organization and development of the parliamentary elections about 40,5 thousand leu have been spent. The financial means limit which may be swerved for each political party and social-political organization is of 12 millions of leu, and for each independent candidate – 500 thousand leu.<\/p>\n

Stirbu also specified that there are about 2 million and 599 voters on the electoral lists and the ballot papers have been printed to match this number. 14,500 ballot papers are designed for the voters on the left side of the Dniester River and over 63 thousand for the citizens who are going to vote at the polling stations abroad.<\/p>\n

For the parliamentary elections 1,978 polling stations have been created throughout Moldova, including 33 polling stations abroad and ten stations for the Moldovans, the residents of Transnistria.<\/p>\n

As many as 66 mass media institutions have engaged in the electoral campaign, including 34 TV stations and 32 radio stations.
