A Scottish jury has found that the case against a man charged with killing his baby daughter in an arson fire was unproven.<\/P>

William Middleton, 33, left the court in Aberdeen a free man Friday after spending six months in jail awaiting trial, The Scotsman reported. His estranged wife, Kareen, 24, left crying and had to be assisted out.<\/P>

The jury deliberated for less than two hours before issuing the unique Scottish version of not proven,<\/Q> which is effectively an acquittal.<\/P>

Firefighters found the body of Annalise Middleton in the family home in Brae in Shetland, still in her crib, last September. Middleton also was charged with the attempted murder of two older children who survived the fire.<\/P>

I would like to say how disappointed we are by the fact that justice has not been done for Annalise,<\/Q> Kareen Middleton said. The fire investigators explained how there were two fires deliberately set in our house. One of those fires took my daughter’s life.<\/Q><\/P>

Middleton, who has always protested his innocence, left court with his parents.<\/P>
