An ongoing drought in parts of the United States has prompted a ban on using sprinkler systems to water lawns in Tampa, Fla., an official said Thursday.<\/P>

Council Chairman Tom Scott said the current drought conditions have forced city officials to ban the use of the sprinkler and irrigation systems on area gardens and lawns starting April 3, the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune said.<\/P>

We are in a crisis,<\/Q> Scott said after the Tampa City Council adopted the measure. And it’s going to get worse before it gets better.<\/Q><\/P>

Brad Baird, director of the Tampa water department, said at the council meeting that preserving the city’s water supplies is vital at this point in the drought.<\/P>

This drought may become the worst on record,<\/Q> Baird said. Our challenge will be preserving enough water to make it through the dry season.<\/Q><\/P>

The Tribune said, according to officials, water enforcement officers have been issuing six citations a day since January in relation to improper water usage.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
