The Congress of Russian Communities of Moldova and the Ravnopraviye [Equal Rights] Socio-Political Movement have decided to convene a joint extraordinary congress on March 28 “to thoroughly analyze the organizations’ current condition and introduce serious changes into their activities”, forum initiators wrote in a media advisory today.<\/p>\n

The initiative group said the extraordinary congress will discuss in detail the behaviour of the organizations’ leader Valery Klimenko, who has decided to stand for parliament on the Centrist Union of Moldova ticket [candidate #7] and announced, though unofficially, so far, his secession from both the Congress of Russian Communities and the Ravnopraviye movement.<\/p>\n

The group members wrote they had many a time warned Klimenko against using the Russian ethnic community’s resources for accumulating his personal financial capital and for improving his own political image.<\/p>\n

The congress initiators also named as “mendacious and provocative” the media stories that these two organizations allegedly support the Centrist Union of Moldova at the April 5 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

However, Valery Klimenko himself stated to your Infotag correspondent that the initiative group’s statements were not true, and that the Congress of Russian Communities and Ravnopraviye had really decided to back Vasile Tarlev’s Centrist Union at the elections.<\/p>\n

“What happened really was my submitting an application for suspending my membership of the Ravnopraviye movement for the election campaign period. This was absolutely necessary to do in compliance with electoral legislation. And the same was done by another four Ravnopraviye activists who have been included into the CUM ticket, too.
