The Central Election Commission (CEC) says that it is impossible to open polling stations abroad in other places than in Moldova’s embassies and consular offices.<\/p>\n

The Commission argues that under article 29 of the Election Code, by a polling place is set up at the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Moldova for the employees of these representative offices, their families and the Moldovans living in the given countries, regardless of their number, when there are legislative elections or national referendums. At the same time, the Election Code does not provide for the opening of poling stations in the counties where Moldova does not have representative offices.<\/p>\n

The CEC said that the legislation does not envision alternative voting methods like voting at the place of residence (with the mobile ballot box), which would enable the Moldovans residing in countries where Moldova does not have representative offices to vote.<\/p>\n

However, the Commission considers that the legislation should be amended so as to offer the Moldovans from everywhere the possibility of voting.<\/p>\n

Recently, a number of associations and communities of Moldovans abroad demanded that the Moldovan authorities insure their right to vote by opening polling stations in the countries where there are communities of Moldovans, especially in the states where Moldova does not have embassies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
