The Government designated the members of the national delegation that will negotiate the new agreement between Moldova and the European Union.<\/p>\n

The delegation will be headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan. He will coordinate the negotiations and inform the members of the national commission for European integration about the results achieved.<\/p>\n

Deputy Foreign Minister Valeriu Ostalep will be the delegation’s deputy head and the chief negotiator.<\/p>\n

On December 3, 2008, the European Commission approved the draft mandate for negotiations on the new Moldova-EU agreement and submitted it to the EU member states for examination.<\/p>\n

According to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, the mandate for negotiations is to be adopted in February-March this year, while the negotiations would start before the Czech Republic hands over the EU presidency.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan authorities consider that the new document must be an Association Agreement that would clearly define Moldova’s path to the European Union, provide for the establishment of a free trade regime with the EU and for the introduction of a visa free regime for Moldovans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
