The NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution, urging the government and the parliament of Russia to respect the commitments taken at the Istanbul OSCE Summit in 1999 and withdraw its illegal military presence from the Transdniestrian region of Moldova in the nearest future. <\/p>\n

Resolution 371 on the future of NATO-Russia relations was adopted by the Plenary Assembly on November 18 in Valencia, Spain.

\nThe NATO Parliamentary Assembly calls on Russia to conduct its foreign affairs, particularly its relations with the former Soviet Republics, in a manner that abides by the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the Statute of the Council of Europe, the Helsinki Final Act of 1975, the 1990 Paris Charter, and the 1999 Istanbul Charter for European Security, nameyly: sovereign equality and respect for the rights inherent in sovereignty of other states, including their territorial integrity and the inviolability of their frontiers; non-intervention in the internal affairs of another sovereign state; refraining from the threat or use of force; peaceful settlement of disputes, the principle "… that no state, group of states or organisation … can consider any part of the OSCE area as its sphere of influence” (1999 Istanbul Charter for European Security). <\/p>\n
