The “Our Home Moldova” party announced its intention to join the Centrist Union of Moldova (UCM), headed by the former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, so that it could participate in the spring elections. Talks between the two parties are under way. <\/p>\n

At a news conference on Monday, Oleg Onishchenko, the leader of “Our Home Moldova”, said that the Ministry of Justice refuses to register the party, invoking different groundless reasons so as to eliminate an electoral opponent.

\nIt is less than half a year until the spring parliamentary elections. Under the electoral legislation, the parties registered less than six months before the election day cannot take part in elections. Therefore, the party decided to join UCM. The leaders of the two parties had a meeting and discussed the issue. <\/p>\n

Onishchenko said that the principles and ideas promoted by UCM are similar to his party’s. He added that they chose UCM because only at most 4-5 parties would enter the next Parliament and the political figure of Vasile Tarlev would help strengthen the democratic forces in Moldova. Onishchenko voiced hope that UCM would accept their proposal. <\/p>\n

Earlier, the party “Patria-Rodina” also announced that it intended to join UCM. Onishchenko said that several parties submitted applications to join UCM, but refused to name them. <\/p>\n
