The Governments of Romania and Hungary signed a joint statement, committing themselves to backing Moldova and Ukraine in their European integration efforts. The two countries said that the development of Moldova-EU relations and Ukraine-EU relations is essential in the context of the European Neighborhood Policy. <\/p>\n

According to a communiqué from the Romanian Government, the statement stresses the importance of finalizing the talks over a new agreement between the EU and Moldova this year.

\nAlso, Romania and Hungary pleaded for the settlement of the frozen conflicts and said that the Transdniestrian dispute should be solved by preserving the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Moldova. They said that the 5+2 format continues to be the only viable negotiation framework for identifying solutions. <\/p>\n

The two states unerlined that the relations with Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan should be strengthened. As regards Georgia, it should develop its relations with the EU, including through measures aimed at facilitating visa issuing and through a possible free trade agreement that could encourage internal reforms in the country. <\/p>\n
