The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) will hold a nationwide protest on November 9 and make common cause with the journalists and media outlets that are intimidated and persecuted by the Communist regime. The protest will start at 11.00 in all the district centers of Moldova, including the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. <\/p>\n

PLDM leader Vlad Filat told a news conference on Monday that the protest is aimed at sensitizing the population and international organizations to the limitation of the freedom of expression and the access to information and to the pressure exerted on the media outlets in Moldova.

\n“The elimination of TVR1 from the information market, the attacks on PRO TV Chisinau, the regular harassment of the radio station ‘Vocea Basarabiei”, of ‘Timpul, ‘Jurnal de Chisinau’ and ‘Ziarul de Garda’ newspapers and of the local press, the appropriation of the ‘Euro TV’ and ‘Antena C’ stations represent violations of the right to free expression and an attempt to deprive the people of true and objective information in the run-up to the legislative elections,” Filat said. <\/p>\n

According to Filat, the national public broadcaster ‘Teleradio-Moldova’ continues to propagate in favor of the Communist Party, while the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) distributes frequencies according to political criteria and insures the communists’ monopole on the electronic press. <\/p>\n
