The Moldovan authorities will put forward a set of proposals for solving the Transdniestrian dispute to Tiraspol, President Vladimir Voronin told RIA Novosti in an interview. <\/p>\n

“The mediators in the talks are familiar with the proposals. They include the draft status of Transdniestria as part of Moldova, guarantees, mechanisms and the provisional regulatory framework. Even if certain data and terms stipulated in the project are outdated, we intentionally kept the content of the documents in the form in which the Russian, Ukrainian, European and American experts examined them,” the head of state said. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin expressed his skepticism about the results that could be achieved after a meeting with the leader of Transdniestria Igor Smirnov. <\/p>\n

”It is hard to be optimistic in the given situation. I and Smirnov have negotiated the place of the meeting for three weeks and I don’t really think that we will be making headway with the major problems. We can reach compromise solutions, but I’m not sure that this is possible at the coming meeting,” Voronin said.

\nHe said that since the last April meeting with Smirnov until present, no progress was made, but it would be good if Tiraspol stopped rejecting any proposal put up by Chisinau. <\/p>\n

”It is very clear that Moldova will be reunified sooner or later. But we should not lose time showing our characters and postponing solving the acute problems faced by the population of the Transdniestrian region,” Voronin added. <\/p>\n

“There are not so many solutions to the conflict. We can use different terms – federation, unitary state, confederation, union state – but this will not bring us closer to a solution,” Voronin said, adding that any project must be based on the fact that a state must be viable, democratic and neutral, while Transdniestria should enjoy a guaranteed status.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
