Transdniestria is disposed to negotiate with Moldova, including in the 5+2 format, but the Moldovan authorities are not ready for talks, the Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov said during a news conference on August 31. <\/p>\n

According to REPORTER.MD’s correspondent in the region, Smirnov said that for the dispute to be solved, Moldova should withdraw from GUAM, join the Russia-Belarus Union and introduce Russian as the second state language. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the Transdniestrian authorities say that the recognition of Transdniestria by Moldova would be the optimal solution. Speaking about the talks over the Transdniestria conflict with the official Chisinau, Smirnov said that President Vladimir Voronin should recognize the independence of Transdniestria and open talks to build neighborhood relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol. <\/p>\n

In another development, Smirnov said he knows nothing about Moldova’s settlement plan that was allegedly presented by Vladimir Voronin to Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting in Sochi on August 25. According to Smirnov, Russia also does not know about such a plan. <\/p>\n
