The Liberal Party of Moldova (PL) demands that the Parliament address the serious dangers to which Moldova’s independence and sovereignty are exposed and adopt a special statement calling on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops from Transdniestria. <\/p>\n

The party’s demands come as response to Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the breakaway Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which PL describes as irresponsible. The Liberal Party considers that the decision is aimed at destabilizing the situation in the Caucasus and in the Black Sea region and forms part of a wider scheme for reestablishing Russia’s influence on the peripheries of the former Soviet Empire. <\/p>\n

In this connection, PL criticizes the tacit approval of Russia’s aggression against Georgia expressed by President Vladimir Voronin at a recent meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev and says that this way the Moldovan leadership showed that it accepts Russia’s solution to the Transdniestrian conflict. <\/p>\n

Given such circumstances, the party demands that the Parliament, the Presidential Office and the Government firmly condemn Russia’s military aggression against Georgia, reassert the unreserved support for its territorial integrity and explicitly and unequivocally deprecate Russia’s unilateral recognition of Georgia’s enclaves. <\/p>\n

The Liberals also demand that the Presidential Office and the Government seek support from the European organizations and all the democratic states in defending the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova, which are directly threatened by Russia’s military presence in the Transdniestrian region.\/\/REPORTER.MD<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
