The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Moldova and Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski and Andrei Stratan, signed a Moldovan-Polish cooperation agreement aimed at supporting Moldova on the path to European integration. <\/p>\n

During the signing ceremony in Chisinau on July 11, the Polish official said that under the agreement, representatives of Moldovan ministries and of the police will benefit from informative seminars. The police officers could attend training courses organized at the Police Academy in Poland. The Polish Prime Minister will pay a working visit to Moldova this autumn in order to strengthen the cooperation relations. <\/p>\n

Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland is ready to support Moldova in its efforts to join the EU, adding that Moldova is a European neighbor and not a neighbor of Europe. “Of course, Moldova has a long way to cover to become a member of the European Union, but its openness and readiness to make progress are commendable,” Sikorski said. <\/p>\n

The Polish official voiced hope that Moldova will be able to make use of the advantages offered by the ‘Eastern Partnership’. In the same connection, the Moldovan Foreign Minister Andrei said that this initiative corresponds to Moldova’s European aspirations, especially because it envisions canceling the EU visa regime and creating a free trade zone. “The ‘Eastern Partnership’ will offer us the possibility of making progress in the political and institutional spheres,” Stratan said. <\/p>\n

The Polish-Swedish initiative ‘Eastern Partnership’ envisages strengthening relations with such countries as Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Belarus. The aim of the partnership is to help these countries come closer to the EU.
