The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) considers that Moldova must accelerate the implementation of reforms and change certain attitudes and practices in order to improve activity in the key areas, the PACE President Luis Maria de Puig said in a speech delivered in the Parliament of Moldova on July 9. <\/p>\n

According to the European official, reforms must be still carried out in such areas as freedom of the media, the fight against corruption, insurance of the local public administration’s autonomy etc. <\/p>\n

“Moldova has been a member of the Council of Europe for 13 years and during this period it has been monitored by the CE. This is a rather long period of time and PACE proved sufficient patience and therefore an acceleration is necessary,” the European official said. <\/p>\n

Referring to Moldova’s aspirations for European integration, Luis Maria de Puig assured that Moldova has chances to become part of the EU and will receive the necessary assistance from the Council of Europe. <\/p>\n
