Moldova will open a consulate in Iasi town, while Romania in Cahul town. Such a decision was made during the recent visit to Moldova of the Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu. <\/p>\n

According to a communiqu\u0439 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the two consulates will be opened in the near future so that they facilitate the provision of consular services to the citizens of the two states. <\/p>\n

“Given the necessity of extending the legal framework of the bilateral relations, the Romanian and Moldovan authorities decided to speed up the negotiating process and prepare the Border Treaty between Moldova and Romania for signature. This will offer real possibilities for signing later the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic,” the communiqu\u0439 says. <\/p>\n

The authorities of the two states will also consider opening consulates in Constanta and, respectively, in Balti according to the principle of reciprocity. <\/p>\n

Lazar Comanescu paid a visit to Chisinau on July 7. That was his first visit to Moldova since his appointment to the post about three months ago. <\/p>\n

The Romanian authorities proposed opening the consulates in Balti and Cahul at the start of 2007, when Romania introduced a visa regime for Moldovans.
