Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu, who is in Moldova on an official working visit, and his Moldovan counterpart Andrei Stratan held a joint news conference on July 7 to present the results of their discussions. But the two officials did not speak about one of the most important topics – the bilateral treaties between Moldova and Romania. <\/p>\n

After outlining the main points of their talks, the two ministers refused to make statements for the Moldovan and Romanian reporters that tried to find out if they discussed the bilateral treaties. <\/p>\n

At the news conference, Andrei Stratan said that they discussed a number of aspects of the bilateral relations that must be dealt with. “We agreed to continue the dialogue and discussions so as to identify solutions. In the near future, we will center on this and hope to achieve results,” Stratan said. <\/p>\n

”The Transdniestrian dispute was not forgotten. We are grateful to the EU member states, including Romania, for their stances on this problem,” Stratan said. <\/p>\n

For his part, Lazar Comanescu said that he joyfully ascertained that the bilateral and juridical relations are developing. He voiced hope that they will find the necessary solutions in a reasonable period of time and by joint effort. <\/p>\n

”We have come here to strengthen Moldova’s efforts on the path to European integration. Romania, which is the only EU state that has direct borders with Moldova, will support Moldova in its bids for European integration. Romania is always ready to share its experience as regards the results achieved and the problems it faced,” Comanescu added. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the new political framework between Moldova and the EU, the Romanian diplomat said that Romania, as an EU member, will insist that the talks over this document be as short as possible and that the final document should strengthen Moldova’s European position. <\/p>\n

As to the Transdniestrian dispute, the two officials said that the conflict should be solved at the talks in the 5+2 format.
