The leaders of Transdniestria and South Ossetia consider that the non-recognition of Transdniestria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia is discrimination and a violation of the rights of their peoples. <\/p>\n

A joint statement signed by the Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov and the self-styled president of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity in the South Ossetian capital, Thinvali, on July 4 says that the non-recognition of the self-proclaimed republics hinder the establishment of a legal status for the post-Soviet area and affects the stability in the region. <\/p>\n

The statement says that the non-settlement of the Transdniestrian dispute obstruct the normal development of Transdniestria as fully-fledged member of the international community. Transdniestria is subjected to political, economic, information and military pressure on behalf of Moldova. “The obstacles placed by Chisinau and Tbilisi are a source of instability in the Caucasus and the Black Sea Region,” the statement reads. <\/p>\n

The statement also says that the system of international relations created after the proclamation of the independence of Kosovo region shows that the principle of preserving territorial integrity by not recognizing Transdniestria and South Ossetia has a relative character given that “the two republics have legal, political and morel rights to be internationally recognized." <\/p>\n
