Five right-wing parties of Moldova have opened talks to consider the possibility of merging into one party and participating in the 2009 parliamentary elections under a joint list. <\/p>\n

Such an announcement was made by the vice president of the European Action Movement (MAE) Ion Neagu at a news conference on July 1. <\/p>\n

Neagu said that the democratic forces should join if they want to remove the Communists from power. According to him, they are negotiating with the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), the Our Moldova Alliance Party (AMN), the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Liberal Party (PL). <\/p>\n

“If we take part in elections separately, it will be to the Communists’ liking. The Communists introduced amendments to the Electoral Code, raising the electoral ceiling and banning electoral blocks,” Neagu said, specifying that this way the Communists want to disperse the votes and win the 2009 elections. <\/p>\n

The MAE vice president said that the joint list will not include the Democratic Party (PD) and the Social Democratic Party (PSDM), which “cooperate with the Communist Party (PCRM)”. According to Neagu, the events witnessed by the Chisinau Municipal Council speak about the betrayal of PSD, while PD has engaged in political games and, together with representatives of the Christian-Democratic People’s Party (PPCD) and PCRM, dismissed the pro-European district vice presidents. <\/p>\n
