The Moldovan Head of Parliament Marian Lupu says he is prudently optimistic about the continuation of the dialogue between the two banks of the Dniester after having an informal meeting with the president of the Transdniestrian Supreme Soviet Evghenii Shevchuk in Brussels. <\/p>\n

At a briefing on Friday, Marian Lupu said that the meeting, the first in seven years between politicians from Chisinau and Tiraspol, marked a first stage in the talks. <\/p>\n

“The meeting was held in a calm and positive atmosphere. We discussed political, economic and social matters in order to establish the way of thinking and perceiving things and create continuous conditions for holding the talks. The Moldovan authorities are disposed to cooperate,” Lupu said. <\/p>\n

According to Lupu, the European officials assured that the EU is ready to allocate funds for projects intended to bring the people from the two banks of the Dniester closer. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the decision to remove Evgheni Shevchuk from the EU’s blacklist, the Moldovan speaker said that this decision is not a charity act, but a well-though and stimulative step. The decision is aimed at making Tiraspol see how the EU treats this problem and what assistance the EU can offer. <\/p>\n
