Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin is to participate in the NATO (North Atlantic Alliance) Summit in Bucharest which is going to be held on April, 2-4, 2008. <\/p>\n

Sources within the Presidential press service stated for BASA-press that the program of the president’s visit is going to be made up on April, 1. Vladimir Voronin is going to be accompanied to Romania by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan and Minister of Defence Vitalie Vrabie. <\/p>\n

In line with the Summit’s agenda, quoted by Mediafax, about 3000 delegats are going to participate in the Summit. The main issues that are planned to be discussed within the event include NATO extension and operations in development, the issue of partnerships and the 21st century’s challenges, among which the energetic security, cyber and anti-rocket defence. <\/p>\n

The NATO Summit starts on April, 2, 2008, with a dinner offered by President Traian Basescu for the high officials who are to attend the summit. The main issues are to be discussed on April, 3 and 4. On April, 3, in the evening, the ISAF Reunion is going to be held. April, 4, is to be devoted to the councils of NATO – Ukraine and NATO – Russia. <\/p>\n

The high-rank officials whose presence has been confirmed include NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, President of Strategic Forces Commission within the House of Representatives Ellen Tauscher, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, Croatian Premier Ivo Sanader, Canadian Premier Stephen Harper, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and Member of Ukrainian Rada Boris Tarasiuk. <\/p>\n

As many as 24 ministers and MPs are expected to attend the event. The participants will include 40 heads of research institutes and organizations. About twelve thousand police officers and 1,200 specialized cars are going to assist the event. <\/p>\n
