The second round of elections in the Popular Assembly has been held in the ATU Gagauzia. In line with the preliminary data, within the scrutiny, the voters elected 17 MPs, including seven for the part of the Moldovan Communist Party, one for the part of the Social and Political Movement „Ravnopravie”, and the remaining being independent MPs, President of Electoral Commission in Comrat Piotr Ivanov stated for BASA-press. <\/p>\n

Ivanov announced that the Gagauzian Central Electoral Commission (CEC) was ready to develop the second round of elections in the Popular Assembly and that no violations have been registered which would bar their validity. <\/p>\n

The second round of elections was held in 17 districts with an only mandate, where, in line with the results of the first stage of elections, no candidate got the necessary number of votes from 50 per cent plus one vote. <\/p>\n

The first round of elections held on March, 16, 2008, was monitored by 77 international observers. Out of the 18 MPs elected, three are for the part of the Moldovan Communist Party; two represent the Democratic Party in Moldova and one – the social-political Movement „Ravnopravie”. The remaining 12 MPs elected, are independent. <\/p>\n

About 85 thousand voters are residents of ATU Gagauzia.
