The settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is not an exercise by which we must disregard the wishes of the Transnistrian residents. Only an open process of negotiations in the "5+2" format is likely to bring about a viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict, EU Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Mizsei stated. <\/p>\n

The statements were made on Wednesday, March, 26, 2008, within the second Annual International News Conference entitled "Transnistrian conflict settlement in the context of Moldova’s Europeanization", where a range of Moldovan and foreign officials participated. <\/p>\n

According to Mizsei, the "5+2" format is the most correct, beneficiary and consequent basis to settle the conflict. <\/p>\n

„The Transnistrian conflict settlement will be a major achievement for the Moldovan citizens. They deserve much more than they currently have. Decent conditions of living must be created in their home country, so that they are not forced to leave it, while the citizens who left abroad come back home, because Moldova needs them.” Mizsei said. <\/p>\n

President of Foreign Policy Association (FPA) Ion Sturza specified that in his point of view there are three political projects which could consolidate the public opinion and Moldovan society in order to settle the Transnistrian conflict. One of them is the European integration, which could contribute to creation of useful values to stabilize the perception of Moldova’s development. The other consolidation projects are to join a collective process of security and reintegration of the country." Sturza said. Superior Researcher of Jamestown, Washington Foundation Vladimir Socor stated for BASA-press that „a quick settlement of the conflict is possible anytime, if Moldova wanted an unfavourable settlement for itself.
