The Representatives of Russia, Ukraine and OSCE to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) back Chisinau’s initiative on removal of checkpoints from the Security Zone. The initiative was discussed within the ordinary JCC sitting which was held on March, 13, 2008. <\/p>\n

According to Moldovan Co-president to JCC Ion Solonenco, the Moldovan party has failed to persuade the Transnistrian one to examine the address project towards Tiraspol on the removal of the permanent checkpoints in the Security Zone, located without JCC’s agreement or decision. <\/p>\n

In spite of the fact that the discussions were hot, the Transnistrian party to the JCC avoided analysing the issue mentioning that its settlement depends on the removal of the Police Station and Penitentiary in Bender subordinated to Chisinau." Solonenco mentioned. <\/p>\n

The quoted source specified that the Transnistrian party proved once again that it was delaying the removal of the checkpoints from the Security Zone. „It is not the JCC’s competence to solve the problem on removing the Police Station and Penitentiary in Bender, because it contravenes with the Agreement (1992), which stipulates the dislocation of these structures in the Security Zone, as long as the peace-keepers are in the region.” JCC co-president said. <\/p>\n

Ion Solonenco has said that the fact that the Transnistrian delegation touch upon some issues which are not on the agenda of the working sitting denotes that they are conscientiously barring the activity of the JCC. Despite this, the Moldovan delegation appreciates the consensus achieved following five hours of negotiations, on including the issue on the agenda of the following sitting. <\/p>\n

Sergiu Gutu, consultant on political and military issues of the Ministry of Defence mentioned that within the JCC’s sitting the participants discussed the approbation of a new military observer delegated to the Security Zone for the part of Moldova and heard the report drawn by the Joint Military Commandment for March 5-11, 2008, on the situation in the Security Zone. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan delegation to the JCC repeatedly suggested the removal of the fifteen checkpoints of the peace keeping troops. The decision was made on March, 20, 1998 within the high-level meeting in Odessa, when it was established that the situation allows the removal of the checkpoints, which impede the circulation and bring no supplement to the security.
