The Centrist Union from Moldova doesn’t agree with the initiative launched by the Liberal Democratic Party from Moldova about the organization of a national referendum on problems connected with the improvement of the constitutional procedure of election of the President of the country and change of the current electoral system in comparison with the mixed electoral system.
\nIn time of a press conference held today, Mihai Petrache, leader of UCM said that the initiative of PLDM is good a useful, but he declared that its realization in this moment is not suitable, it cannot be productive and it can have the effect of boomerang because of some reasons.
\n„It is not the time to do that. Thus, to initiate the organization of a republican referendum since the date of constitution of the group of initiative till the date of organization of the referendum, at least 13 years are needed. Moreover, the referendum doesn’t last for 120 days before or after the organization of parliamentary elections, general local elections or of another referendum. So, the referendum will be held in 17 months, in August 2009”, Petrache says.
\nHe considers that, given the consultative character of the referendum, the favourable results of the referendum could be ignored by the future Parliament too, as it has been previously done, and thrown to the trash bin.
