As many as 161 candidates have registered for the electoral campaign in ATU Gagauzia due on March, 16, 2008, Head of Gagauzian Central Electoral Campaign (CEC) Piotr Ivanov stated for BASA-press. <\/p>\n

According to Ivanov, the Gagauzian CEC registered till the last day the documents could be submitted, on February, 14, 81 independent candidates out of the total number (161) in Komrat, Ciadar-Lunga and Vulcanesti counties. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan Communist Party put forward 26 candidates, the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) – ten, the social-political Movement “Ravnopravie” – eleven, the Humanist Party (PU) – one and the European Movement Action (MAE) – five. The Agrarian Party (PA) put forward six candidates, the Popular Republican Party (PPR) – three and the Moldovan Socialist Party (PSM) – two. Also, Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) put forward five candidates, and the Moldovan Social Democratic Party (PSDM) -eleven. <\/p>\n

The Gagauzian CEC registered in Komrat 15 more candidates for the party of the PCRM. The second place is held by the social-political Movement “Ravnopravie”- eight candidates, followed by the PD – 6 candidates. The total number of independent candidates amounts to 32 people. The PSDM put forward four candidates and two represent the PA. The AMN party and the PU put forward one candidate each. The PPR, the MAE and the PSM failed to put forward any candidate in this county. <\/p>\n

In Ceadar-Lunga county there were 37 independent candidates registered, five representing the PCRM, six- the PSDM, and the PDM and the AMN – four candidates each. The PPR put forward three candidates, the PA and the social-political Movement “Ravnopravie”- two each and the PSM- one candidate. The PU and the MAE put forward no candidate in this county. In Vulcanesti, the PCRM put forward six candidates, the MAE- five, the PA- two and the PSM, the social-political Movement “Ravnopravie” and the PSDM- one candidate each.
