British, Belgian and German experts pay a 4-7 February visit to Moldova to inspect military units. <\/p>\n

The chief specialist at the strategic planning agency of the National Army’s Major Headquarters, Lieutenant-Colonel Sergiu Railean, has said the inspection is carried out in line with the 1999 Vienna Document on strengthening confidence measures and security in Moldova. <\/p>\n

Railean specified that the experts are going to check the military units deployed in Chisinau, Balti, Ungheni, Cahul, part of the security zone and the Transnistrian region. Under the 1999 Vienna Document, all military units, including those of the Russian Federation based in the region, can be inspected by the team of experts. <\/p>\n

In 2007, Moldova was inspected by five teams of experts: four in line with the 1999 Vienna Document and one in line with the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty. The experts pointed out Chisinau’s transparency and the lack of transparency of the Russian troops temporarily deployed on Moldova’s territory. <\/p>\n
