On Saturday, the Moldovan Ministry of Justice registered the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova founded in late 2007 by an initiative group led by MP Vladimir Filat. <\/p>\n

The party leader remarked with satisfaction that despite certain attempts to drag the LDPM registration, all bureaucratic hardships have been overcome, and the new political force can now embark on regular work. <\/p>\n

The lists sent to the Ministry of Justice for registration contained 12.6 thousand names, though the official necessary membership minimum is only 5 thousand. The new party has been broadly represented in practically all Moldovan raions as well as in Gagauzia and even Transnistria. <\/p>\n

In 2007, Vladimir Filat quitted the Democratic Party of Moldova in protest against a very low level of democracy in it and against what he perceived was an authoritarian style of chairmanship by the party leader, MP Dumitru Diakov. Some political analysts are saying, however, Filat simply sought to become a Democratic Party Chairman, but the incumbent DP head did not let him to. <\/p>\n

Many local experts share Filat’s ambitions because it was really and largely thank to him that the Democratic Party managed to double its popularity rating at the June 2007 local elections – to 10% from the previous 5% in the country as a whole, and to 8% from the previous 1% in Chisinau city. <\/p>\n
