EU Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Mizsei has positively appreciated the parliament’s activity streamlined towards adjusting the national legislation to the European norms. <\/p>\n

The statement was made at a today’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu, according to the legislature’s media relations service. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Mizsei highlighted the importance to adequately enforce the adopted legislation. <\/p>\n

The officials approached the development in Moldova’s European integration process, the local democratic reforms, pointing to the need to press ahead with internal changes and adjust the sectors of paramount importance for the country’s social and economic development. <\/p>\n

The sides also underscored the importance to launch negotiations on a more advanced legal framework in the relations with the European Union, which will end up in the elaboration of a new cooperation document. The new agreement should ensure Moldova’s access to the four European freedoms – free movement of people, goods, services and capital. <\/p>\n

The officials tackled a string of aspects related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the negotiating process. Lupu and Mizsei spoke out for solving the issue on the basis of the principles of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity stressing that an eventual solution should be negotiated within the 5+2 format. <\/p>\n

The two sides attached special importance to the way of conducting the 2009 parliamentary elections, which, they said, will stand as an exam of Moldova’s European vocation. Marian Lupu and Kalman Mizsei advocated fair elections in line with the internationally recognised democratic principles. <\/p>\n
