Ilkka Kanerva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland – the country that has assumed presidency in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe from January 1, 2008 – will pay his first official visit to Moldova as the OSCE Chairman-in-Office next week, the OSCE Mission to Moldova has reported. <\/p>\n

On Thursday, January 10, Ilkka Kanerva will address the OSCE Permanent Board and will present in detail Finland’s OSCE presidency priorities. Earlier, at assuming the Organization presidency from Spain, Ilkka Kanerva said his country’s OSCE priorities would be the Kosovo problem, unresolved or frozen conflicts, the CFE destiny, and some other. The Organization will pay special attention to elections in Georgia, Russia and the United States. Also, the OSCE is going to brisk up its activities in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. <\/p>\n

In Moldova, Ilkka Kanerva is going to learn more about the Transnistrian issue so as to find possibilities of resuming the negotiation process broken up almost 2 years ago. <\/p>\n

After Chisinau, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office will go to Ukraine. And before the end of the year’s first quarter, he will visit Armenia and Georgia.
