Taking into account the provisions of the joint declaration on the principles of the relations between Moldova and Italy, signed in Chisinau on 20 March 1997, as well as of the bilateral treaties in force, <\/p>\n

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of the bilateral relations and collaboration in diverse fields, as well as with the boosting of the political dialogue between the Sides, <\/p>\n

Ascertaining the constantly increasing role of the European Union (EU) as principal factor of stability, security and prosperity in the Euro-Atlantic area, and reconfirming Moldova’s and Italy’s attachment to the common European values and both sides’ firm will to cooperate so as to promote these values and the economic and social progress on the European continent, <\/p>\n

Being aware of the importance to deepen the political dialogue and cooperation between Moldova and Italy, <\/p>\n

Appreciating Moldova’s European choice and emphasizing Italy’s willingness to support Moldova’s efforts for the fulfillment of the commitments assumed before the European Union, including within the Moldova-European Union Action Plan, <\/p>\n

Sharing the European Union’s will to back the peaceful and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian problem and the negotiations in the 5+2 format, <\/p>\n

Recognizing the common cultural origins as fundamental element of both States’ affiliation with the European area, <\/p>\n

Moldova’s Foreign and European Integration Ministry and Italy’s Foreign Ministry, which met in Chisinau on 9 January 2008, agreed to develop a strong bilateral partnership to support the political, economic and administrative reforms Moldova has carried out, including within the gradual process of becoming a neighbour of the European Union, and to promote, in particular: <\/p>\n

1. The development of close political and diplomatic relations between the two countries, and turning to account the bilateral and multilateral cooperation in order to promote the European values and standards, and consolidate the European and regional security; <\/p>\n

2. The fostering of the inter-parliamentary relations and dialogue between the respective civil societies; <\/p>\n

3. Strengthening of the lawfulness and full carrying out of the measures of cooperation initiated in the field of combating the criminality; <\/p>\n

4. The covering, at the community level, of the prospects of the relations between Moldova and Italy, depending on Moldova’s progress in the implementation of the Moldova-EU Action Plan, including the possibility to define new juridical relations; <\/p>\n

5. The support of the development of Moldova’s cooperation with the European Union through intensifying the bilateral collaboration and promoting a coordinated policy in line with the European interests and values in the sectors of common interest, among which: <\/p>\n

a. consolidating the administrative potential, sharing the experience in the field of adjusting the national legislation to the EU standards, training civil servants in the area of European policies; <\/p>\n

b. exchanging experience to develop the strategies of communication, so as to inform the public opinion about the European Union and support of the society in the reforms’ process; <\/p>\n

c. exchanging information on EU’s instruments, organising consultations, conferences and other joint activities on the European policies and Europe s future; <\/p>\n

d. diversifying and extending the cooperation in the education and culture fields; <\/p>\n

e. collaboration in the field of consular relations; <\/p>\n

f. exchanging experience in the process of reform in the area of justice and combating the organised crime and corruption; <\/p>\n

g. improving the operative capacities of the bodies competent with ensuring the borders’ security and boosting the cooperation in order to combat the human traffic and illegal migration in the context of the agreements existing between the Sides; <\/p>\n

h. cooperating in the field of managing opportunities as regards the legal migration, taking into consideration the agreements and interests existing between the Sides; <\/p>\n

i. promoting collaboration in the field of employment and exchanging experience in the area of employment policies; <\/p>\n

j. promoting the cooperation in the sanitary and medical sciences area, as well as in the agro-food, agro-industrial and phyto-sanitary fields; <\/p>\n

6. The entering into force of the Agreement on visa regime facilitation and the agreement on readmission between the European Union and Moldova, as well as their enforcement; <\/p>\n
