Those 11 militaries that arrived, on December 22, from the post-conflict mission of recovery of Irak were decorated with military distinctions of the Ministry of Defence. <\/p>\n

The best result of the contingent is the salvation of tens or hundreds of human lives that could suffer from the impact of 65 thousand explosives annihilated by the Moldovan sappers, Minister of Defence Vitalie Vrabie has said. <\/p>\n

During those about 180 days in Irak, the eight Moldovan sappers liquidated over 65,500 explosive objects and 17 units of weapons. The Moldovans examined 50 km of ways of communication, verified 248 deposits of weapons and ammunitions. In those six months, the contingent made 101 missions, according to Contingent Commander Alexandru Galasan. During the mission, the militaries proved a high level of development and were appreciated by the local public authorities of the region they activated in, according to Great Major State Head Ion Coropcean, Commander of National Army. <\/p>\n

The National Army of Moldova has about one hundred militaries with participation experience in international peace-keeping or humanitarian missions in different countries. <\/p>\n

Those 11 Moldovan sappers are healthy and will take one-month paid leave, Public Relations Responsible within Ministry of Defence Valeriu Rusu has said, contacted by BASA-press. <\/p>\n

Moldova is participating at the post-conflict operation of recovery of Irak since 2003. The sixth contingent of 20 militaries is to leave soon for Irak.
