Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) managed to persuade Transnistria to examine the project on removing checkpoints from the security zone, Moldova’s Representative to JCC Ion Leahu stated for BASA-press. <\/p>\n

Leahu specified that the Transnistrian party had accepted, within the meeting on December 20, to analyse the project of the address which stipulates the removal of over 20 checkpoints of the force structures in the security zone, which were installed without the JCC’s consent. <\/p>\n

Within the meeting the form of address towards the Transnistrian and Moldovan leaders was thoroughly analysed which stipulates this request. "The consent given by the Transnistrian party is a positive step. The removal of over 20 checkpoints of the force structures in the security zone will contribute to the demilitarization of the region." Ion Leahu stated for BASA-press. <\/p>\n

"We are unsure whether the Transnistrian party will accept at once, but we hope to get an affirmative answer in January 2008." Leahu added. <\/p>\n

The checkpoints of the force structures in the security zone were installed in 1998. Moldovan delegation to the JCC repeatedly insisted on their removal. The latest request was put forward half a year ago. <\/p>\n

"In what concerns the removal of the steady checkpoints of the peace-keeping forces from the security zone, I doubt that the Transnistrian party is to give an affirmative answer in the nearest future." Leahu specified. <\/p>\n

Moldovan delegation categorically suggested JCC that it should resort to the removal of those 15 permanent check points of the peace-keeping troops. This decision was made on March 20, 1998 within the high level meeting in Odessa, when it was established that the situation allows the liquidation of the check points, which bars the circulation and fails to provide a supplement to the security. <\/p>\n

The decision was put forward to be examined within the meeting held on December 6, 2007.
