An ordinary meeting of the Central European Initiative national coordinators will be held in Chisinau in January 2008. <\/p>\n

The forum will be organized by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which will be presiding in the CEI next year. Formally, Moldova has already assumed the presidency. That happened at the recent meeting of the organization’s national coordinators held in Trieste (Italy). <\/p>\n

The Moldovan foreign ministry wrote in its press release today the Republic of Moldova, as the CEI presidency, will be promoting the decisions taken by CEI heads of government at their forum in November 2007. The decisions are aimed at CEI reorganization, development of relations with the European Union, consolidation of international cooperation, implementation of joint projects, etc. <\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova National Coordinator, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Regional Cooperation Department Dumitru Tira presented in Trieste a program of Moldova’s priorities as the CEI presidency. Chisinau will organize and hold a number of high-level political meetings as well as profiled conferences on transport, tourism, sciences, civil-society problems. <\/p>\n

The Central European Initiative was established on November 11, 1989, when an Agreement on cooperation in political, economic, scientific and cultural fields was signed by Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. Presently, CEI unites already 18 states – Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Ukraine, Hungary, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro.
