The Russian embassy to Moldova argues no position has been taken on opening voting sections in Transnistria for the Parliamentary elections in Russia, scheduled for December 2, 2007. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA-press, Head of Mass-Media Bureau within the Russian Embassy to Moldova Alexei Bobenco announced that no decision had been made on where and how many voting sections were to be opened for the Russian citizens who are Moldova’s residents. "This is being examined and is to be decided in the following days. Moldova’s national legal stipulations are to be taken into account while making a decision." Bobenco said. <\/p>\n

According to the quoted source, Russian citizens who live on both sides of the Dniester River are to be granted maximum conditions so that they could participate in the elections on December 2. <\/p>\n

Bobenco did not confirm the information which appeared in Transnistrian mass-media in line with which Russian Ambassador to Moldova Valeri Kuzmin would have declared following a meeting he had with the leaders of the breakaway Transnistrian administration that voting sections could be opened in Transnistria. <\/p>\n

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) announced in a press statement that the opening of illegal voting sections in Transnistria by Russia would be considered, and the full responsibility for the consequences would be of those who organized them. <\/p>\n

These statements were made in the wake of some information which appeared in mass-media on a possible opening of 24 voting sections in the Eastern regions of Moldova for the elections in the Russian State Duma.
