The name of the Principality of Moldova and its people were brought back on the world political map 16 years ago, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has said at a festive reception dedicated to the Independence Day. <\/p>\n

Voronin said that the Moldovan statehood resumed its way in history 16 years ago. <\/p>\n

"The foundation, laid by our legendary ancestors more than 600 years ago, found its continuation again. The history has given us another chance, a unique chance of acquiring independence, of putting ourselves on trial to see whether we are able to build a modern and developed country and a free society," he said. <\/p>\n

The head of state said that the history of independence of each nation and country is unique. <\/p>\n

"There are no universal laws or experience in this respect. It is impossible to share your independence. This way requests that each nation undertakes by itself creative efforts, displays prowess of overcoming new and sometimes unexpected impediments," Voronin underscored. <\/p>\n

The president highlighted that the independence exam, which Moldova has been taking during all these 16 years, allows us learning many lessons. <\/p>\n

"The first one resides in the fact that one cannot separate the edification of our own statehood and our own independence from the widest freedom, from the possibility of hearing the voice of every citizen, from the ability of being sensitive and attentive to the rights of those who are in minority from one reason or another," the president said. <\/p>\n

According to him, the Transnistrian conflict, which continues to be as old as Moldova’s independence, is being settled through the instruments of freedom, through rights, through opportunities and through invitation at an advantageous dialogue. <\/p>\n

"We know that those of our citizens who live on the other bank of Dniestre should acquire their own chance of turning successful in the Republic of Moldova, of having the possibility of developing within an integral country. It simply cannot be otherwise any more," Voronin considers. <\/p>\n

Democratic therapy is the best way to overcome mistrust, to find forces to achieve nationwide consolidation, he said. <\/p>\n

The second lesson, the president emphasized, resides in the fact that the chance of being a competitive state can be fully capitalised provided that we manage to become really interesting not only to our citizens but also to the other countries. <\/p>\n

"Being interesting means being a reliable partner in foreign policy relations and being a comfortable place for investments and for mutually advantageous and conflict-free cooperation," Voronin said. <\/p>\n

The head of state pointed out the huge efforts Moldova has undertaken to balance confidence at the level of foreign policy and to become a country in the future of which the international community believes. <\/p>\n

"Our country has a unique experience – experience of friendship and strategic partnership with the USA, the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and the Caucasian and Transcaucasian countries," Voronin said expressing content with the fact that it is namely in the neutral Moldova that the interests of these great world powers are materialised on a compromise basis. <\/p>\n

Voronin said this is a potential that Moldova is going to further enhance. <\/p>\n

"It is our own geo-political achievement, which we have no intention of sacrificing despite some or other unanimated dogmatic schemes," he said. <\/p>\n

The third lesson resides in the fact that in the nowadays’ world, it is impossible to build independence unless you participate in global international projects, the most important of which is the European integration. <\/p>\n

"Being able to become a truly overt country means co-participating in this great project of unifying nations and countries and sharing responsibilities and freedoms. Although with a significant delay, our people and our country have embarked on this path and it has no other alternative any more," Voronin underscored. <\/p>\n

The head of state highlighted that Moldova is becoming a society which is getting closer to Europe without, however, turning its back on its pragmatic and time-tested relations with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. <\/p>\n
