The recent elections have not only changed the Moldovan political "map ", but also spawned a new situation, which is not going to change till the next parliamentary elections, President Vladimir Voronin stated at a news conference on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. <\/p>\n

At the beginning of the conference Voronin told the journalists that he wanted to speak about the election results not only as "the president of Moldova, but also as the leader of the governing party". "It is absolutely clear today what kind of opposition the PCRM is going to face in a year and a half." (2009 – till the next Parliamentary ellections -i.e.) the head of state mentioned. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Voronin emphasised that the party he is heading can not be satisfied with the results of the local elections. "There is a number of reasons to be dissatisfied. On the one hand, in line with all the political canons, the results show that the PCRM won the elections. Our political rivals obtained twice, thrice fewer votes than the PCRM. The fact that the opposition formed a general coalition did not allow us to be leaders in most of the regions, thus to really win. We are aware of why we failed to register higher results and to feel more confident. In many situations the unsuccessful local candidates promoted by our party diminished the PCRM results and partly compromised our achievements in the last four years" President Voronin stated. <\/p>\n

He added that "the stability which characterises the last two years, the political calmness, demobilized, somehow, our party, especially its middle link of leaders. This thing happens to many parties, especially to the big ones, which are governing. We are no going to make similar mistakes anymore. The results obtained in Balti, Ocnita, Donduseni, Floresti and Basarabeasca and in some other localities, prove our real potential. And we are going to restore it". <\/p>\n

On the other hand, Voronin accused the Christian Democrat Popular Party and the Democratic Party claiming that in just some days they destroyed the consensus which had existed between the political parties in the Parliament for two years. "The correct, balanced, principle-based and a European style position of the Parliament was left in the past. Now, we are again witnessing a primitive Moldovan politics, when there is only a relationship between just two powers – between the PCRM and the opposition as a whole. The members of the opposition did not understand that Moldova is a country and not an Ltd nor a joint-stock company, and that Moldova is a state where all the elements are interdependent. The opposition has easily renounced to the consensus achieved by the political parties in the Parliament for the sake of the European integration, in favour of another consensus – for the sake of "getting some pieces of land" the head of state mentioned. <\/p>\n

Voronin claims that the new consolidated opposition intends to blackmail the governing power threatening with new strikes of protest and other types of manifestations. In Voronin’s point of view the pretext of the protests would be the possibility of the Transnistrian conflict settlement. "The opposition is determined this time to declare openly against the territorial integrity, against the Moldovan reintegration, against the demilitarization of the country. Every one understands very well what the reasons of this kind of actions for the part of the opposition are. Urechean, Braghis, Diacov and Rosca consider that their political rating could go down if the country is reunified" the head of state stated. <\/p>\n

"We regret that we have such an opposition, but the PCRM and its parliamentary faction will neither offer seats in the branches of power nor offices to the opposition, will not negotiate before hand some common positions in different issues relating to the state power and policy.
