"The Central Election Commission shall not announce a repeated election to the Floresti Raion Council [raion legislature]", CEC Secretary Iurie Ciocan stated for the press. <\/p>\n

As Infotag has already reported, the raion is experiencing a crisis-like situation. The new Raion Council of 33, in which the Communists hold 18 mandates, cannot start regular work because 15 opposition councilors are boycotting forum sessions. The Communists have already tried several times to convene the Council, but all in vain. The opposition would not show up, and without a quorum of two-thirds of votes any decision will be illegitimate. <\/p>\n

The opposition maintains the Communists seriously breached law during the recent election campaign and on voting day. The democrats are wondering how the Floresti Raion Court and then the Balti regional appeals chamber recognized the elections as valid if the voting was recognized as void in the raion’s 11 populated areas, and if more than 5 thousand ballot-papers were recognized null and void. <\/p>\n
