Moldova is part of the European Neighbourhood Policy, and Germany is interested in the further development of the democracy in Moldova, promotion of economic reforms and the Transnistrian conflict settlement. <\/p>\n

An MP of the German Bundestag (legislature), member of the commission for European affairs Rainder Steenblock made the above statement at a today’s meeting with Speaker Marian Lupu, according to the parliament’s mass relations department. <\/p>\n

The German lawmaker stressed that the deepening of the Moldovan-German bilateral relations fits into the cooperation with the other states of the region, including Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania. <\/p>\n

Marian Lupu appreciated the importance of the strategic cooperation with Germany, in the perspective of Moldova’s European integration. The interparliamentary relations between the two states have acquired a new dimension following a visit to Moldova by the German speaker last October and an official visit to Germany by Moldova’s speaker in spring 2007. Within the visit, Marian Lupu invited the heads of Bundestag’s commission for foreign policy and the group of friendship with Moldova to pay a visit to Moldova. <\/p>\n

During the dialogue, Marian Lupu referred to the reforms implemented in Moldova through the light of the strategic goal of European integration. In this respect, the speaker appreciated the concept of European Neighbourhood Policy Plus promoted by Germany. <\/p>\n

Moldova needs a clearer signal on the part of the European Union (EU) member states, including Germany, as regards the prospects for the European integration, Marian Lupu said. He asked for Germany’s support to negotiate a new juridical framework with EU, after the expiration of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in 2008, which would politically encourage the Moldovan society. <\/p>\n

Given that the national legislation has been improved already, Moldova aspires to get the Autonomous Trade Preferences till late 2007, and to sign with EU the agreements on simplifying the visa regime and readmission, Marian Lupu said. <\/p>\n

The speaker also declared for the extension of EU’s technical assistance for Moldova, including through PHARE. <\/p>\n
