The Ministry of Justice of Moldova has sent a letter of inquiry to the parliamentary Christian Democratic Popular Party demanding to present official explanations concerning the manifestation the CDPP held near the monument to Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau center last May 19. <\/p>\n

As Infotag has already reported, on that day a nationwide referendum on President Basescu’s impeachment took place in Romania. In the evening, when it became clear Traian Basescu would win the plebiscite and would thus remain at his post, the CDPP arranged an unsanctioned rally in Basescu’s support. <\/p>\n

\"\"Subsequently, Moldovan police authorities sent inquiries to the Central Election Commission and the Chisinau Constituency Electoral Board, drawing their attention to the fact that during the noisy manifestation of May 19, pre-election slogans were cried out in public. Police then addressed with a similar inquiry to the Ministry of Justice. <\/p>\n

For almost 2 months by now, the Christian Democratic Popular Party leaders have been maintaining they had violated neither law nor public order, for the May 19 action was peaceful and was held in an orderly manner. <\/p>\n

"The CDPP has always been on Basescu’s side, so the manifestation was a spontaneous display of natural joy on the occasion of the Romanian President’s victory.
