The Chairman of the Parliament of Moldova, Marian Lupu, received an official delegation from the United States Congress House of Representatives last Saturday. <\/p>\n

The delegation was composed of members of the House Democracy Assistance Commission (HDAC), which works with developing democratic governments throughout the world to strengthen their representative institutions. Three Members of the House of Representatives were included in the delegation: Representative David Price, of North Carolina, and Representatives Bill Shuster and Allyson Schwartz, both of Pennsylvania. Representative Price is Chairman of HDAC, and he was the delegation leader. <\/p>\n

The parties discussed how Moldova was implementing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Threshold Program aimed at rendering assistance to the Government of Moldova to reduce corruption in the public sector. They shared an opinion that the Program opens a new chapter in the Moldo-U.S. relations and lets Moldova move toward a sustainable partnership. <\/p>\n

Speaker Lupu voiced confidence the MCC Program will help fight corruption in Moldova. He assured the guests the Republic of Moldova has a very responsible approach to the Program realization. <\/p>\n

Lupu spoke out for consolidating inter-parliament relations and direct contacts between Moldova and the United States. He expressed gratitude to the U.S. leadership for its support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and for including the U.S.A. as an observer, along with the European Union, into the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. <\/p>\n

Marian Lupu pointed out that the US’ participation ensured a balance of forces in the Transnistria negotiation format.
