The Central Election Commission doubts that the information system will function at all the polling stations. CEC Chairman Eugen Stirbu associates it with financial and technical costs. <\/p>\n

He told Infotag that it is planned to implement only pilot projects at the elections, slated for June 3. <\/p>\n

"At the same time, the joint information system will allow registering each participant in the elections. The data will be sent to the central server of the CEC. Such approach will exclude the repeated voting. It is planned to introduce the new system completely by the elections of 2009", he said. <\/p>\n

In accordance with the amendments in the Election Code, the elections will be considered as valid, if 25% of the voters participate in them, but not 33% as it was before. CEC Chairman considers that it is early for the time being to cancel the turnout threshold in Moldova, the society is not ready for this. <\/p>\n

Voters, who have to leave their residence, but wishing to participate in the elections, must inform the respective institution of his sojourn place 45 days before the elections. In this case he will be excluded from the election slate in his raion and will be included into the slate in another one. At the local elections it is planned to elect 898 Mayors and 12 thousand councilors. In order to become a Councilor candidate, it is necessary to collect not less than 50 signatures of the residents of a locality and at least 150 signatures are needed for Mayor’s candidates. <\/p>\n
