Prosecutor General is likely to be called to the Parliament to provide explanations over the arrest and intimidation of journalists from three television stations on March 27. The announcement was made by Iurie Stoicov, Chairman of the Standing Committee for National Security, Defense, and Public Order. <\/p>\n

Stoicov stated at the Thursday Parliament sitting that intimidation of media is an outrageous thing and that he discussed about this cases with Prosecutor General. "The Prosecutor’s Office announced that these cases are examined and, depending on the investigation results, it is very likely that it will be decided to call Prosecutor General to the Parliament for explanations", said Stoicov. <\/p>\n

\"\"At the same time, non-affiliated MPs Vitalia Pavlicenco, Dumitru Braghis, Igor Klipii, and Our Moldova Alliance faction asked for the Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc to be invited to the Parliament for explanations over the arrest of journalists, members of Liberal Party and other people who celebrated the 89th anniversary of the unification of Bessarabia with Romanian on March 27. Their proposal was rejected, as was the initiative of the social-liberals to ask for the dismissal of the Interior Minister. At the same time, AMN stated that it notifies General Prosecutor’s Office asking it to initiate a case for each of these cases. <\/p>\n

On March 27, police arrested leaders and a group of Liberal Party supporters who were heading to the Armenian Cemetery to put flowers on the tombs of the members of Sfatul Tarii (old Parliament) who voted for the unification of Bessarabia with Romania. Along with those 15 PL members, a PRO TV Chisinau crew was arrested and TV-7 and DTV journalists were brutalized. Commissar of Municipal Police, Alexandru Mihai, told that the policemen who arrested the journalists had been applied disciplinary sanctions.
