The European Commission announced yesterday that it would disburse 50 mln euros in economic aid to Moldova in 2003-2004. <\/p>\n

According to EC representative in Moldova, Ivan Borisavljevic, half of the sum will be expended through the TACIS (Technical Aid to CIS States) programme and will be aimed at funding reform in Moldova’s administrative and legal systems. <\/p>\n

In addition, part of the sum will be spent on stimulating the private sector and its export potential, as well as supporting healthcare and families in need. <\/p>\n

The EU will also disburse 10 mln euros in macroeconomic financial assistance to Moldova and another 10 mln euros – to support its food security. Additional 5 mln euros will be spent in aid to individual regions. <\/p>\n

Borisavljevic reminded that in 1998 EC considered allocating 15 mln euros to Moldovan government as credit, however, as of 2000, the European Union and the European Commission began to feel that part of it, provided Moldova has an agreement with IMF and the World Bank, could be provided in the form of grant. <\/p>\n

At present, EC has decided to endow Moldova with 15 mln euros gratis, provided it meets all the above requirements, especially that of agreement with IMF. <\/p>\n
