Moldovan political analysts consider that the idea of a Romanian plan on settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is sustainable due to the Moldova-Romania neighborhood. <\/p>\n

Political analyst Nicolae Chirtoaca, director of the Euro-Atlantic Centre of Moldova, stated that Romania is justified to propose a Transnistrian settlement plan firstly due to its neighborhood with Moldova. Frozen conflicts in the region represent a potential threat against security of Romania, and the Romanian concept on national security also indicates this thing, he noted. <\/p>\n

Any proposal on reintegration of Moldova can be taken into consideration in the measure in what it offers well-structured solutions, not only "out-of-the-way initiatives," Chirtoaca noted, adding that the appearance of a settlement plan of Romania will be a signal that this country wants to get involved more actively and it is interested in a soon settlement of the Transnistrian problem. Also, he noted that there is no well-done settlement plan at present. <\/p>\n

Political analyst Igor Munteanu, director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives IDIS Viitorul, said that it is very important for Moldova that its neighbors be aware of the emergent need to settle the Transnistrian conflict and of the fact that the resolution depends on efficiency of existing settlement plans. <\/p>\n

According to Munteanu, the quality of the settlement initiatives is improving and this makes us believe that the plan of Romania will be better. Romania realises that it has the mission to participate in the settlement of the conflict while the confidence that appears between Moldova and Romania allows us to presume that these plans will be taken into consideration, Munteanu noted. He stressed that there is an impression that the Ukrainian plan on peaceful settlement of the conflict has "floundered" and any other initiatives are welcome. <\/p>\n

Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu said while on a visit to Chisinau last week that Romania has drafted its own plan on settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, but only Romanian President Traian Basescu can unveil it in the Moldovan parliament.
