Moldova.ORG — "We will be happier for our western neighbors’ achievements when Moldovan citizens will enjoy all the rights of movement that neighboring Romanian citizens do. If the European Union does not see a problem in the fact that four million Moldovan citizens will enjoy European freedoms in case they have Romanian passports, then I think that we will be able to find arguments for the European Union to address the problem of these four million people based on Moldovan citizenship", stated President Vladimir Voronin on Friday before the representatives of the diplomatic mission accredited in the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

"We don’t want and will not put up with the inconveniences of European neighborhood facing Moldovan citizens and business after Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union", the head of state also said. <\/p>\n

As to the changes produced after Romania and Bulgaria had joined the European Union, Voronin stressed that the state competitiveness norm in this part of Europe complicated within countable weeks. But Moldova resisted this unexpected challenge. In Vladimir Voronin’s opinion, "it is under these very circumstances – which are a kind of extreme one – that the true state immunity, civic responsibility, and true competition in terms of decision making forms". <\/p>\n

\"\"Referring to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, the head of state announced that after his meeting with President Putin on 8 August 2006, "a new level of the dialogue with Russia regarding this matter stood out, which is responsible and professional" and that "despite all fears and phobias, Russia states its strong attachment to Moldova’s territorial integrity".<\/p>\n

"By the efforts of all mediators and observers, the Transnistrian issue reached a "brighter zone" and, therefore, we should not miss this chance to make everything possible in order to take advantage of this situation, so that this conflict ends up once and for all, and Moldova gain the status of free, unitary, and democratic country", the president stated. <\/p>\n

The president welcomed, in this context, Ukraine’s and EU’s joint efforts at the Moldovan- Ukrainian border. "Today Moldova states firmly that it controls the customs territory and that Transnistrian business is catching roots in the legal environment of the national legislation". <\/p>\n
