A Moldovan delegation, headed by Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Eugenia Kistruga participated in the fifth three-sided meeting Moldova-Ukraine-European Union in Brussels, focused on Moldovan-Ukrainian border issues. The Moldovan delegation was made up of head of the Customs Service Feodosia Furculita, head of the Border Guards Service Igor Colenov and the first deputy director of the Moldovan Railway Company, Vladimir Bogoev. <\/p>\n

According to the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s press service, the main subjects considered referred to the issue of rail traffic and export of excised goods, the two states’ outcome after the border’s demarcation, and the joint control set at five state border crossing points. The Moldovan delegation stressed the need to implement such a control at the check points Mayaki-Palanca-Udobnoye and Cuciurgan-Pervomaysk too. <\/p>\n

The head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), Ferenc Banfi, informed the participants about the results of the mission’s activities, the cooperation with the Moldovan authorities and joint border control operations. <\/p>\n

The officials also considered the implementation of the Moldovan and Ukrainian premiers’ joint declaration from 30 December 2005 on the customs regime at the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border. Moldova’s representatives stressed the EUBAM’s important role in monitoring the declaration’s carrying out. The EU hailed the progress obtained due to the joint actions undertaken to enact the new customs regime at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, and underlined the importance of border transparency and good cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine in the field. <\/p>\n

During the meeting, the European Commission showed a special interest in supporting the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities’ actions in the context of cooperation at the common state border, particularly as regards the demarcation of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border, and ensuring of joint control at the border crossing points. <\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, the sides signed protocols on exchanging information between the Moldovan and Ukrainian Customs Border Guard Services.
