Moldovan Chief Sanitary Doctor Ion Bahnarel has commented on the accusations brought by his Russian counterpart, Gennadiy Onishchenko. <\/p>\n

"The Moldovan experts and medical community estimates the proportion of intoxications by alcohol occurred in Russia with deep compassion and grief. Dozens of dead people, hundreds of people who became disabled within few days only – it is surely a catastrophe at the national level. Although, such social epidemics have not been registered in Moldova, we are undertaking additional measures to check all beverages containing alcohol that entered Moldova’s market from Russia. <\/p>\n

At the same time, we are bewildered at Onishchenko’s hidden accusations that the misfortune that hit the Russian citizens is a consequence of the Moldovan wines’ consumption, or of certain actions organized by Moldova. I would like to say to Onishchenko as a doctor to another doctor that it is unusual that public deductions be made in such dramatic situation. One needs to be calm, cool-blooded and shall not discredit the country which entrusted to you its medical security. It is necessary to find the real reasons of the tragedy fairly and in a professional manner. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Moldova has received from Onishchenko no document proving that the Moldovan wines would pose any danger to the Russian consumers. Moreover, many appeals in written form submitted directly to Onishchenko by the Moldovan side remained without any verbal or written answer. The Moldovan wines were removed from the Russian shops’ shelves eight months ago. <\/p>\n

The practice of the last months proves that maybe, the lack of these wines, as well as other qualitative alcoholic beverages provoked this misfortune the Russian community is confronting with.
